Birmingham Machine Tool Services Ltd can carry out ballbar testing and analysis of the results on all types of C.N.C machinery. Through ballbar testing we can help you:
Verify machine performance Achieve manufacturing tolerances Grade and compare machines Check new machines at commissioning Check machines after a "crash" to make sure machine is able to achieve manufacturing tolerances, or to identify possible causes of machining errors.
Ballbar testing is also a very useful tool as part of your preventative maintenance programme as trends in machine conditions can be spotted and acted on before inspection failures and scrapped components, thus reducing wasted time and increasing productivity.
How does ballbar testing work?
The Renishaw ballbar is a precision measuring instrument (capable of measuring to + or - 1um of accuracy). It collects data on axis movements when moving in a circular motion. Any deviation from a perfect circle is measured.
From the collected data problems with the machine's geometry such as squareness and straightness can be determined. Also dynamic errors such as ballscrew problems, backlash, reversal spikes, servo mismatch, stick slip can also be determined.
Why you should use B.M.T.S for your ballbar testing requirements
We not only provide a ballbar testing service and reports to I.S.O standards, with analysis of results, but also offer a comprehensive corrective action service to bring your C.N.C machinery back to the standard you require for your machining needs. This can include ballscrew repair, slideway repair, backlash elimination. In fact just about every corrective action that can be carried out on a C.N.C machine, and that includes right up to full rebuilding.
